James Ristvedt

James Ristvedt is a consumer protection attorney and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) subject-matter expert with a particularly deep understanding of how consumer reporting and background screening companies operate. Before representing consumers, James spent a decade overseeing compliance and operations at a consumer reporting and investigations agency, where he worked with Fortune 500 companies on complex reporting and compliance issues.

That experience gives James an inside understanding of the systems, policies, and procedures behind consumer reports. He has developed FCRA compliance policies, advised legal and risk professionals, and led high-level employment investigations involving executives in both the public and private sectors.

James also brings extensive business and leadership experience to his legal practice. As a leader within a $500 million holding company, he helped drive strategic changes, launch new products, identify growth opportunities, and improve company operations.

Today, James uses his background in consumer reporting and FCRA compliance to represent people dealing with inaccurate or damaging information. His practice includes credit report errors, bankruptcy reporting errors, mixed credit files, deceased reporting, background check errors, identity theft recovery, EFTA and FCBA violations, and debt collection harassment.

James earned his B.A. from Saint John’s University in Minnesota and his J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Arizona and Florida, as well as numerous federal district and appellate courts across the country.
